Gardening Tips

I will answer a couple of questions I hear a lot of people coming into the Garden Center asking.
Should I still be fertilizing?
Do not fertilize any more.  You want to prepare your plants for winter and let nature take it's course as they get ready to "hibernate".  Fertilizing will cause your plants to shoot new tender growth which isn't ready for the trials of winter.  So hold off on the fertilizer until spring and stop in and we will get you some slow release fertilizer that you only apply once for the whole summer.
My Annuals & Perennials are not looking nice?
If your annuals are looking like they are getting the late summer blues just give them a nice haircut.  Just trim them back and they will get a fresh flush of new growth and improved flowering.
For Perennials go through and deadhead your daylilies, salvias and other perennials.  This will encourage them to bloom more.
With Roses go through and snip off spent roses.  The best way to do this is 2 leaves down from the spent rose cut the stem right about the leaf.

If you have any questions on this or anything else to do with plant health be sure to give Katie a call at 722-4600.  She is our plant health and disease expert.

Enjoy the rest of your summer

Thanks for your time.
