I hope none of you blew away during memorial day weekend and had some much needed rest and relaxation. We are still pressing on after the fire and are going to start cleaning up soon. God was truly watching over us in making sure no one was hurt.
| | | Fire at Ground Effects
 On May 16th at Ground Effects we had quite the scare. Our south growing greenhouse went up in flames. After looking in to the cause of the fire it was confirmed that it was an electrical fire that was caused by a balast that went bad in the florescent light in the head house.
We are keeping a positive attitude and are blessed that a majority of the plants were not affected. A special thanks to the Sioux Center Fire Department who did a fabulous job controlling the fire and putting it out ASAP.
Don't worry we still have a great selection of smokin' hot annuals and hanging baskets.

| | Gardening Tips
The following are some of the things you should be thinking about or looking for that has to do with your landscape:
Fertilize
Now is the time to fertilize your trees, shrubs, perennials, evergreens, roses, and annuals. We can help make it as easy as possible for you. We offer a slow release fertilize to sprinkle around the base of your plants that fertilizes them for the next
3 MONTHS!!!! You don't have to get out your miracle gro feeder for your hose every so often. You just sprinkle the fertilizer around your plant or plants and everytime it rains, or you water them, nutrients will be released into the ground for the roots to take up. We also offer planting tablets to help give your plants a little kick start when planting. These tablets will fertilize your plants for up to 2 years. They are sold with our tree kits that you can read about in the side column.
Plant Problems
Take note if any of your plants are having problems year after year. If it keeps having the same problem you may want to take some preventative action. If you are having problems we can help diagnose the problem and also offer a preventitive solution for you. You can call in and ask or one of our plant experts can come look at your problem plant for a small fee.
-One of the problems that starts coming on soon is powdery mildew. Which looks like a white substance on your plants leaves. Stop in if you have seen this on your plants before and we can help to try prevent this from happening.
| | Mother's Day Report
Our Destination Sioux Center winner was Shelly Van Otterloo. Shellly and a guest will receive pampering at Renae's Salon and spa along with breakfast, lunch, and movies. She is already enjoying her hanging basket she won.
Our kids corner was busy with kids potting up plants for their mom the Wednesday before Mother's Day. We had almost 40 kids create a container and make a card with a picture of them creating their gift. You can check out the website for a few of the pictures.

| | Trimming Advice
Don't forget that now is the time of the year you need to trim your mugo pines and also your topiary or poodle evergreen trees. Make sure to just trim the "candles" off and not any of the other parts of the plant. Remember this is the only time of the year you need to trim these evergreens. If you have any questions feel free to drop me an email or give us a call.

Don't forget to check out our kids corner. We have some really fun gift ideas such as the beatle barn, butterfly house and some gardening tools for kids. Parents, remember while you shop your kids can color or watch a video to stay entertained.

We have put together "tree kits" to help with the health of your tree. It contains a rubber tree ring to put around the base of the tree to keep the grass and mowers away. A tree staking kit to keep your tree growing straight, and some fertilizer tabs to give your tree a little boost. Be sure to come and check it out.
