| With Poinsettia season fast approaching you might want to find out some fun facts and care instructions for your poinsettia's on this website.
| Don't forget to protect your trees this winter from the weather and animal damage. Make sure to get tree guards for the trunks of your trees now before it gets cold. A little prevention goes a long ways. We do have them on hand. Put them on now but make sure to take them off right away in the spring.
| Rose cones are probably the most common and most misused method of winter protection. This method often fails because the graft is not adequately protected. All of the shrub roses we sell at Ground Effects should not need rose cones. Just give them a small haircut this fall and put some mulch around the base of the rose to protect the crown. Then in the spring you can prune any winter kill and you are ready to go.
| Fall cleanup will help minimize problems with pests. Rake and destroy fallen leaves. Remove any disease infected leaves. One avid rose grower removes all the foliage from his 200-plus rose collection prior to winterizing them. I guess raking is not that big of a deal after all!!
